They’re growing! 8th January

Today has been chore day. After breakfast we made ready and untied Lillian and gave her a little run to the other end of the marina. This isn’t far at all and it was just for a pump out. Whilst Mick manned the pooh sucky machine I gave parts of Lillian a scrub down to loose the bird pooh that the local gulls leave for us. The drainage holes on the portholes had a little clear out with a small brush. It’s amazing how much water can sit inside the frames from us just breathing inside the boat.

Just about at the end of the wine supplies we got before Christmas we headed to stock up from Morrisons, we also got food as well! Morrisons are trying to do their bit for wonky veg. Today we noticed 1.5kg bags of wonky carrots and onions. We would quite happily buy them, except 1.5kg is too much for us to eat before they go off and is far to heavy to carry home! If the bags were half the size one of each would have gone in our trolley.

Got to help them clear the shelves

With Waitrose having quite a few things at half price at the moment we made a special trip to buy a half price duck from them, they threw in a free paper too! Very good of them. Their sad gits section is still inundated with party food, but they have now reduced their mince pies to 19p. It would have been rude not to get a box.

Yesterday the river was dropping steadily, but when we woke this morning we had risen again. We weren’t aware of much rain here or further upstream. It just goes to show you shouldn’t take blue skies to mean that the levels will drop.

Sideways view. They are coming to get us!

Our mushroom box after sitting doing nothing for seven days has produced a couple of bumps. These on closer inspection are made up from small white stalks with black dots on the ends. We are getting excited about our mushroom crop, but also a little worried that they may take over the galley!

0 locks, 0 miles, 1 empty pooh tank, 1 big shop, 1 quack for the oven on Sunday, 53 boxes of reduced mince pies to get a free Saturday newspaper, 8/31, 36 small black dots pushing their way into daylight.
